Change for Chile
Less than a week after we collected up our change to send to the Haiti relief effort, a massive earthquake struck Chile, once again causing destruction, death and despair.
Although many buildings in Chile have been built to withstand the effects of earthquakes, most older buildings did not fare so well and even some of the newer ones found it difficult to withstand the effects of such a huge quake.
Again, my family sat down together to scratch our heads and ponder what we could possibly do.
That’s when the idea of ‘Change for Chile (and Haiti)’ came up.
After all, we had change laying around the house and we’re not that different from other people – so maybe other people would have change they could give.
We decided to write a letter to the students in Rebekah and Caleb’s school asking if they had any change sitting around at home unused and forgotten.
The response has been phenomenal. Although their school is fairly small (less than 100 students) the change has just kept on coming rolling in.
To date we have had a little over $220!
It’s such a blessing to see other people give and such an encouragement to our kids to see that by taking the lead and asking others to join them, their relatively small amount has multiplied almost ten times.
We thought we had nothing to give and now, without touching a penny in our bank accounts, without having to give up anything, without a struggle at all we have $250 to send to help the relief efforts in Chile and Haiti.
This has been a great encouragement and motivator to us an I hope it will be to you, too. Although it seemed as though we had nothing to give, stepping out and doing something instead of sitting back and doing nothing has bought HUGE results!
